No Yuvraj & Harbhajan for Punjab; Mandeep Singh will lead the team in Ranji Trophy opener

All eyes on Indian domestic season as the youngsters as well as the international players are giving their best to make their side come out in flying colours.

The Ranji season is here as it is set to commence this Thursday.  With the inclusion of nine new teams, there is no dearth of talent this time and it will be interesting how they can create an impact in their maiden appearance.

Mandeep Singh is all set to lead the Punjab side against Andhra Pradesh in the opener at Vizag. This news comes as a surprise as several big names are missing in the squad. Yuvraj Singh hasn”t been named in the side and the state cricket has named many youngsters in the 16-man squad. Gurkeerat Singh will be the vice-captain for the side.

The squad has a very limited International experience with the presence of key pacers Siddharth Kaul and Barinder Sran. Abhishek Sharma, Gill and IPL sensation Mayank Markhande have also been named as the side gets a new look. Punjab will return home after the first game as they are about to face Madhya Pradesh in the second match starting November 20.

Mandeep is also now roped into his home team for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League. All seems to be well for the youngster and the responsibility is on him to utilize the potential of every member of the side.

Punjab has only one Ranji title to their name which was way back in 1992-93. They were the runners-up in the 2004-05 edition and did not make any significant statements in the recent editions. The onus is on this young side to repeat their 1992 heroics.
