Rashid Khan is one of the most lethal spin bowlers in world cricket right now. Whenever he comes on to bowl, he has that drive and passion to get a wicket out of every ball that he bowls. He has created the fear in the mind of the batsman that he will bowl some variation that will trouble the batsman.
The main characteristic of Rashid’s bowling is that he doesn’t allow the batters to play his shots. He has that incredible game sense that he makes the batsman play the shots that he wants you to. He bowls perfectly according to the field placement that he and his captain would have decided. This ultimately results in a batsman playing some rash shot or playing a shot straight to the fielder and giving away a wicket to Rashid.
Recently, West Indian batting legend and Sunrisers Hyderabad batting coach Brian Lara stated that Rashid Khan is not a wicket-taker and is someone against whom opposition teams like to defend. Speaking on Star Sports, Lara said: “I have a great respect for Rashid Khan but I believe we have the right combination. Rashid Khan was someone who opposition teams decided to defend against, he was not much of a wicket-taker.”
“Yes (economy of) 5.5-6 runs per over is great but I think when you have a guy like Washington Sundar spinning the ball into the left-handers in the first six overs, He is an asset. Suchith has come in as his replacement due to injury and he is an asset as well,” Brian Lara added further.
Rashid Khan was a mainstay in the Sunrisers Hyderabad team for quite a few years now and was the go-to man for his captain whenever they required a wicket at any stage of the game. The Afghan spin wizard has scalped 93 wickets for SRH and has picked up in excess of 15 wickets in each season since he joined in 2017.
Rashid Khan continues to impress for Gujarat Titans
Rashid is still a key part of the game no matter how and when he is used. He also became captain for his new franchise, Gujarat Titans in the absence of regular skipper Hardik Pandya. In that match, Rashid played a brilliant cameo and stitched an important partnership with David Miller to secure an unlikely win over four-time champions Chennai Super Kings.
Rashid Khan has scalped eight wickets so far in seven matches at an impressive economy rate of 6.50 and an average of 22.75. He has batted only once in this tournament and produced a match-winning masterclass.
