Nottinghamshire Sign Indian Wicketkeeper-Batter For Upcoming County Season

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has signed a short-term County contract with Nottinghamshire. Kishan was not selected in India’s squad for the five-match Test series in England. He will be part of Nottinghamshire’s setup for their next two County Championship fixtures.

Kishan is expected to replace South African wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne, who will be unavailable due to national duty as South Africa are set to play a couple of Tests against Zimbabwe. Nottinghamshire will face Yorkshire and Somerset this month. The stint provides Kishan with a valuable opportunity to gain experience in English playing conditions.

“I’m feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills. I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills,” he said upon signing the deal (via BBC Sport).

Ishan Kishan last featured for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the recently concluded 2025 IPL season. Nottinghamshire, with four victories in seven matches and 115 points, currently lead the standings in the 2025 County Championship Division One.

Ishan Kishan’s Performance In Tests

Ishan Kishan’s Test career for India has been brief so far. He made his debut in 2023 during an away series against the West Indies. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter has played just two Test matches for India, scoring a total of 78 runs. His best performance came with an unbeaten 52, which is also his only half-century in the format.

Although Kishan hasn’t played much Test cricket yet, his County Championship stint offers an important opportunity. He does, however, bring solid experience from India’s domestic circuit, where he has represented Jharkhand in 58 first-class matches.

In 98 innings, Kishan has scored 3,447 runs at an average of 37.87, with eight centuries and 17 fifties. During the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season, he appeared in four games and collected 176 runs. His campaign included one hundred and an average of 29.33 across those matches, underlining his potential in red-ball cricket.
