NZ vs SA: Kane Williamson Becomes Fifth New Zealand Batter To Score Centuries In Both Innings Of Test Match

Veteran New Zealand batter Kane Williamson became the fifth New Zealand batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test match. He achieved this remarkable feat during 3rd day of the 1st Test match against South Africa played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on 6th February 2024. Williamson came to the crease after the early fall of Tom Latham’s wicket. He looked in sublime touch putting pressure on the inexperienced South African bowling lineup.

Williamson made the batting look easy taking charge after New Zealand bowled out South Africa for 182 in their first innings. New Zealand captain Southee did not enforce the follow-on. Williamson showed intent scoring fifty off 75 deliveries. He along with Conway added 92 runs for the 2nd wicket. Williamson kept piling pressure hitting some lovely shots making life tough for South African bowlers.

Kane Williamson upped the ante with attacking shots after being dropped. He looked cool reaching a century off 125 deliveries. The star batter was eventually dismissed for 109 off 132 balls including 12 fours and 1 six. New Zealand ended the 3rd day in a dominating position with 179 for 4 with a massive lead of 528 runs. His knock ensured that New Zealand put pressure on the South African batting lineup tomorrow. He scored 118 runs in the first innings and helped New Zealand post a massive 511 runs.

Glenn Turner was the first Kiwi batter to score centuries in both innings. He achieved this feat against Australia played at Christchurch. Turner made 101 and 110 not out. New Zealand won the match by 5 wickets. GP Howarth became the third Kiwi batter to score centuries in both innings. He scored 122 and 102 against England played at Auckland in 1978. The match ended in a draw.

Andrew Jones created history with centuries in both innings against Sri Lanka played at Hamilton in 1991. The match ended in a draw. Peter Fulton was the last batter to score centuries in both innings. He made 136 and 110 against England played at Eden Park, Auckland. The match between England and New Zealand ended in a draw.
