New Zealand registered their first-ever Test series victory over South Africa in the 2nd Test match at Seddon Park, Hamilton on 16th February 2024. Chasing down 267 runs to win in the fourth innings, the hosts began the day with the scoreboard reading 40 for 1, they lost an early wicket of Tom Latham cheaply.
Kane Williamson looked in great touch showing his class putting pressure on South African bowlers. Williamson and Rachin Ravindra showed class with some lovely shots making life tough for South African bowlers. Both batters ensured New Zealand ended the first session at 107 for 2.
After the lunch break, Williamson completed fifty off 113 balls. Ravindra was dismissed and caught by Neil Brand. It was a superb batting display by Williamson keeping the pressure on the inexperienced South African bowling. Williamson and Will Young made the batting look easy. New Zealand went into the tea break at 173 for 3.
Williamson and Will Young kept the scoreboard reading, ensuring New Zealand was on course for an impressive win. Star New Zealand batter, Williamson equalled Steve Smith’s most centuries in Test centuries off 203 deliveries. Williamson and Will Young ensured that New Zealand won the match by 7 wickets.
Williamson looked in complete control and remained not out on 133 off 260 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes. Williamson and Will Young added unbeaten 152 runs for the 4th wicket helping New Zealand match by 7 wickets and seal the series 2-0. New Zealand won the first encounter at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui by 281 runs to take 1-0 lead in the series. For his 4 for 59 and 5 for 34, William O Rourke was named the player of the match award.
Kane Williamson was named the player of the series for 403 runs and made sure that New Zealand won their first-ever Test series against South Africa. Williamson scored 118 and 109 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
