Yuvraj Singh hit sixes in an over against Broad.

It was historic for Indian Cricket as Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes against England in the Super 8 match played at Kingsmead, Durban on 19th September 2007. India was clubbed with England, South Africa, and New Zealand in Group E.

India lost the first match against New Zealand at Wanders, Johannesburg. Needing to stay alive in the tournament, MS Dhoni and Co needed to win this match. Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first. Virender Sehwag and Gambhir put on 136 runs for the opening wicket laying a strong foundation for a big total.

Yuvraj Singh came at the crease in the 17th over after the fall of Robin Uthappa’s wicket. He hit 3 boundaries before that historical over. He showed his class with six sixes in the 19th over and put on an excellent display of hitting. Flintoff said to Yuvraj Singh that he would cut his throat while Yuvraj Singh threatened to hit the all-rounder with the bat.

The left-handed explosive batter then produced a magical display of batting hitting with four sixes on the leg side while twice on the offside. During the innings, he completed the fastest half-century in the T20I format off 12 deliveries which is still the fastest in the shortest format. He was eventually dismissed for 58 from 16 balls with 3 boundaries and 7 sixes that helped India post 218 for 4.

India won the match by 18 runs as they restricted England to 200 runs. MS Dhoni and Co qualified for the semi-finals as they South Africa in their next match. Indian team then stunned Australia by 15 runs at Kingsmead, Durban to make it into the finals.

The finals was a thrilling contest as India held onto their nerves to beat arch-rivals Pakistan by 5 runs at Wanders, Johannesburg to win the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup.
