Former Australian opener David Warner hailed India’s Rinku Singh as one of the finest finishers in IPL history ahead of the five-match T20I series in Australia. He also pointed out the intense competition within Indian cricket, noting that players like Rinku and Sanju Samson have had to battle hard for their spots.
Rinku earned his first India call-up after a standout IPL 2023 campaign for Kolkata Knight Riders, where he amassed 474 runs in 15 games at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53. The southpaw has continued his impressive form in international cricket, scoring 550 runs in 34 T20Is at a strike rate of 161.76, including three fifties.
When Mark Howard asked about the depth of the Indian ODI and T20I squads, Warner said the Australian side is looking forward to challenging these fearless young talents. Speaking to Fox Cricket, David Warner stated:
“It’s stacked heavily. Those two guys you spoke about (Samson & Rinku) have had to fight really hard to cement their spot into that line-up. They have had great IPLs, Rinku is one of the greatest finishers now in IPL history. It’s tough to get into that sort of sanctum.”
He added: “You have two world-class players playing for a long, long time, with youngsters nipping at their heels. It’s exciting for Indian cricket but also for the Australians to take on these world-class youngsters coming through. It will be a true test for the Australians. 90000 at the MCG, I can’t wait to get out there and hear that.”

“Doesn’t Matter What Line-Up India Fields” — Adam Gilchrist
Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist expressed his excitement about the electrifying atmosphere expected when India take on Australia. He backed Shubman Gill to excel in his role as the new captain and feels Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion in the T20I series will have a major impact. Speaking on Fox Cricket, Gilchrist said:
“Yeah, tough to hear yourself think. It’s an electric atmosphere. I think the inclusion of those legendary names. But the new leadership that Shubman Gill has just been outstanding since he took on the captaincy across a number of versions now. Really excited. It doesn’t matter what line-up India put out. They are always competitive in white-ball cricket.”
“It’s so ingrained in the society over there in their cricketing psychie on the back of the IPL that’s grown. There’s no fear, no fear at all from the young players. Bumrah is not here for the one-dayers, only for T20Is. We all sat in admiration of him last year. Amazement about him, he’s a freak of a nature. One of the best the world has ever seen. So, that’s something we will look forward to across Kayo and Fox,” he added.
