Pat Cummins of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Shreyas Iyer of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) engaged in lighthearted banter hours before Sunday’s IPL 2024 final at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, as they attempted to remind each other of what to anticipate in the championship match.
The IPL 2024 final, scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 26, at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, is about to take place. In the league’s summit match, SRH and KKR will square off for the ultimate prize as the two clubs play each other for the first time.
Both teams used an aggressive strategy throughout the competition to get to the IPL 2024 championship match. The Orange Army has relied heavily on opening batsmen Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, while the two-time IPL champions have been led by Phil Salt and Sunil Narine.
In the current tournament, the Pat Cummins-led squad has performed poorly versus the Shreyas Iyer-led team. The Hyderabad team’s first IPL 2024 match ended in a close four-run loss to KKR. In the “Qualifier 1” match in Ahmedabad, the Knight Riders outperformed the Hyderabad-based squad.
“You two have led by example in a lot of swag”- Pat Cummins
The two captains, Shreyas Iyer and Pat Cummins delivered a message to each other ahead of the final. Cummins and Iyer appeared in a special video issued by the IPL’s official handle.
Throughout the season, the two captains admired each other’s leadership. They also warned each other about what to expect in the ultimate showdown. Iyer reminded Cummins of the team’s advantage based on their season record. Cummins maintained that the squad had saved their best for last. Preview of the IPL 2024 final between KKR and SRH.
“Dear Pat! today, I thought it might be fun to drop you a little note. First off, let me just say you’ve done an amazing job leading the Orange Army this season. This season we have given you a tough time. Let me remind you, you faced the same opponent at a different venue. But today you will be against colours that will be familiar to you purple and gold. Here’s to a thrilling final. May the best team win, and by best, I mean ours,” Iyer said in his address to Cummins.
