Imad Wasim announces retirment from international cricket

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday. He was not being picked in the national squad for quite some time. Wasim featured in an international match for Pakistan during the T20I match against New Zealand in Rawalpindi in 2023 April. He was a part of the team that won the Under World Cup in 2006.

“In recent days I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket,” Imad wrote on X. “I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years – it has truly been an honor to represent Pakistan.

“Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage.”

The left-arm spinner and lower-order bat performed brilliantly during middle overs and proved his worth by hitting big shots that made life tough for opponents.

Wasim made his ODI debut on 19th July 2015 against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. He played a total of 55 ODI matches (40 innings) and scored 986 runs with the highest score of 63. In the bowling department, he grabbed a total of 44 ODI matches at an economy of 4.89 runs per over including best figures of 5 for 14.

He featured in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 where Pakistan could not qualify for the semi-finals. Wasim played his last ODI match against Zimbabwe on 1st November 2020.

Wasim was a decent performer in the T20I format with 66 matches ( 44 innings) scoring 486 runs including the best score of 64. He played a key role for Pakistan while bowling with 65 wickets from 66 matches ( 65 innings) with best figures of 5 for 14. He played his last T20I match against Zimbabwe on 24th May 2015.
