Ace Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul is all to retire at the end of the next domestic season. The fast bowler who rose to fame in the late 2000s last made an appearance for the national side in 2016 in the T20 format. But with age not on his side, he is all set to retire from the game.
He has gained fame as one of the most successful bowlers in T20 cricket finishing as the leading wicket-taker and bowler in both the 2007 and 2009 Twenty20 World Championship tournaments. Umar Gul is the second-highest wicket-taker (74) in the shortest format for Pakistan, only behind Saeed Ajmal. He won the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year 2013.
Umar Gul To Retire From All Forms Of Cricket
According to a report in Pakistan local TV Channel Geosuper.tv, Umar Gul is retiring so that he can take up a coaching role within the Pakistani domestic setup. He had got coaching offer prior this but had decided to continue playing. But with age not on his side, Gul has decided to hang his boots.

Umar Gul made his one day debut for Pakistan on 3rd April 2003 and then further went onto make his test debut in the same year. After the likes of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis retired from the game. It was Umar Gul who stepped in and went on to become one of the most consistent bowlers for Pakistan.
But just like every fast bowler, even Umar Gul’s career was hit for several injuries which is why he could not have a prolonged career for Pakistan. After injuries starting affecting his performance for the Pakistan side, he was also involved in doping offence for which he was suspended from international cricket for a brief period.
Later he was recalled to the limited-overs side for Pakistan’s tour of England and Ireland. His contribution to the game will always be fondly remembered in Pakistan’s cricket.
