Pat Cummins Open Up On His IPL 2020 Participation If It Happens

The outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus had a toll on all the sporting activities across the globe including the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to postpone the league until April 15 which was scheduled to commence from March 29.

There have been a lot of speculations going around on how BCCI can host the tournament at some point of time if not they call-off the entire competition. Reports suggest that the apex body can host a shortened IPL in August-September and if take place the participation of the overseas cricketers remains an issue.

While a number of cricketers including Australia’s David Warner, England’s Ben Stokes and Tom Banton and New Zealand’s Mitchell McClenaghan have confirmed their availability, a large pool of players is yet to have a word on it. Recently, Australia’s Pat Cummins also opened up on the same dropping a hint on his participation.

“They obviously haven’t cancelled it or anything like that yet. It’s still a bit of a holding pattern. We’re in contact with our teams every few days. Obviously, everyone’s still really keen for it to all go ahead,” Cummins said.

“I don’t expect anything too soon to happen. I mean obviously the preference would be to be over there playing but… I guess the silver lining is that we do get a bit of a break,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pat Cummins grabbed the headlines when he became the costliest player of the IPL 2020 auction. The right-arm pacer drew bids from Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the start. KKR made just two bids and snared him for a record price of Rs 15.5 crore, making him the biggest overseas pick in the history of IPL auction.
