Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins calls into question fitness before Champions Trophy that will begin next month. Cummins has been struggling with a sore ankle during the Australian summer but is capable of taking his team to a 3-1 victory against India in the Border Gavaskar test series.
He will fly for a scan and so, the Australian chairman of selectors, George Bailey, is unsure of his ability to feature in the tournament.
Australia will miss Cummins and his abilities since he played a pivotal role in helping the team win the 2023 ODI World Cup. If Cummins doesn’t play, there is Mitchell Marsh, who can come in to lead this side as captain.
“Pat Cummins has got a little bit of a sore ankle as well”- George Bailey
Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, is questionable for the Champions Trophy because of an ankle issue he has been battling during the five-match Test series against India.
“We’ll have to wait and see when that scan comes back and see how it’s tracking. There’s a little bit of work to do. We’ll probably get a bit more information around where that’s at,” Australia’s chair of selectors, George Bailey.
Bailey said, “Not really sure yet,” in response to a question about Cummins’ involvement in the Champions Trophy. We will have to wait to find out where that scan is tracking and where it returns.
In November 2023, under Pat Cummins’s leadership, the Australian team clinched the World Cup title by overpowering India in the final match at Australia’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
It is good news also that Josh Hazlewood is expected to be fit again from his calf injury that he incurred during the India series in time for the Champions Trophy. More to it he was not included in the Sri Lankan tour, which was focused around the 50-over ICC trophy.
