Head coach Ricky Ponting (PBKS), a world-famous Australian cricket icon, has stunned the global fan base of cricket with his sensational leadership during the IPL 2025 crisis.
Aware of uncertainties, Ponting exhibited his swift thinking and leadership skills when he immediately connected with his Punjab Kings team, especially the overseas players who were bound to leave in no time. Upon traveling from Dharamsala to Delhi, all the overseas players admitted to being stressed, including Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, and Xavier Bartlett.

Increased border tension between India and its neighbor Pakistan derailed the plans for IPL 2025, as the BCCI suspended the tournament for one week. As the prospects of war and airspace closure by other countries grew and advanced, international players and staff started winding down the plans to leave India.
As things worsened, Ponting was heading to Australia with a flight from Delhi. When a ceasefire was declared between the nations, Ponting surprisingly got down the plane and decided to remain in India, thus showing incredible determination. He immediately reached out to his Punjab Kings team, focusing in particular on overseas players who intended to leave as soon as possible.
“It shows Ponting’s character. Only he could have pulled that off. Not only he voluntarily decided to stay back, he gave a motivational talk to the foreign players who had left for their respective destinations but now will be joining the team at the earliest,” Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon told PTI.
Punjab Kings are currently placed at a fourth position in the IPL 2025 points table after 11 games, with tremendous expectations of qualifying for the playoffs as the season is still on. It is positive progress for the Punjab Kings, as they have had Ponting advising them and Shreyas Iyer leading them throughout IPL 2025. Wassia, who is the captain of the team, has left an enormous impression on Punjab Kings and he is also revered for his motivating skills.
