The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is anticipated to welcome Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), into a new position. Per the most recent news sources in Pakistani media, Mohsin Naqvi is expected to take over as president of the Asian Cricket Council, succeeding current president Jay Shah.

A prior appointment to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairmanship came from Mohsin Naqvi. As the only contender for the three-year PCB chairman post, Naqvi was announced.

The Pakistani cricket team underperformed under his leadership, losing the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June in the group stages after struggling with performances.

PCB Chief Mohsin to succeed Jay Shah as ACC president:

Latest reports from Pakistan suggest that Mohsin Naqvi will be ACC president starting in January 2025, taking up a two-year tenure whose primary aim is to raise Pakistan’s profile in regional cricket administration.

The article goes on to say that the new president of the Asian Cricket Council will be Mohsin Naqvi, who is expected to make an official announcement during a meeting next month or after (October/November).

A rotating mechanism among the ACC’s member nations selects the organization’s president. In January, the Indian board extended the term of Jay Shah, who is now its president and secretary, by one year. Shah’s tenure as ACC president expires in January 2025, at which point Mohsin Naqvi is anticipated to assume the position.

In January 2021, after Nazmul Hasan left office at the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Jay Shah took over as President of the ACC. Jay Shah was leading, the Asian Cricket Council was able to successfully conduct the UAE T20 Asia Cup 2022 and the ODI Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

A demand for “major surgery” has been breathed into the context of the Pakistan national squad after they were outed from the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the West Indies and states within the USA. The PCB chairman removed former players from positions of power and announced a seven-member selection committee. Pakistan and Bangladesh cricketers will play a two-match Test series now.
