The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly planning to reduce players’ salaries, following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the recent T20 World Cup. This decision could lead to several Pakistani cricketers opting out of the central contract.

Pakistan cricket has faced significant challenges lately, both on and off the field. The team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup has brought these issues to the forefront. Reports suggest that the dressing room atmosphere is tense, and persistent fitness problems continue to plague the team. Pakistan’s campaign in the T20 World Cup ended in disappointment as they were eliminated at the group stage.

They suffered defeats to the USA and India but managed to secure victories against Canada and Ireland. Unfortunately, these wins were insufficient for advancing to the Super 8s. Earlier this week, the PCB dismissed selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq, replacing them with a new nine-member selection committee.

After addressing the selectors, the PCB now appears ready to take action against the players. According to Geo News’ Arfa Feroz Zake, the PCB is planning to reduce the players’ salaries. The proposed cut could see salaries decrease from 60 Lac PKR to 40 Lac PKR. “Sources say PCB is set to cut the salaries of Centrally Contracted players of Pakistan Cricket Team which may fall from 60Lac PKR to 40Lac PKR,” Zake reported.

Zake also mentioned that the players are displeased with the new salary structure, and many might choose not to sign the central contract for the 2024-25 season. “Sources say players of Pakistan Cricket Team are UNHAPPY after hearing PCB planning to cut salaries according to new financial model. Few players might NOT show interest to sign Central Contract 2024-25!” he added.

Pakistan is set to return to international cricket next month with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. This series will be their first assignment since the T20 World Cup. Reports indicate that several senior players might be rested for the series.
