Perth Scorchers Player Jhye Richardson Sidelined Due To Hamstring

Jhye Richardson

The Perth Scorchers are hoping that star quick Jhye Richardson will be ready for the finals after suffering a hamstring strain in their loss to the Sydney Thunder on Wednesday night. The right-arm, who has the second-most wickets in BBL|12 with 15, brought his final over against the Thunder to an abrupt end before limping off Perth Stadium in the six-wicket defeat.

Richardson’s scans revealed a minor strain on Thursday, with Scorchers coach Adam Voges expressing optimism that he will be able to return by the end of the tournament.

“It’s on the very minor end of a hamstring strain,” he told reporters today. Unfortunately, it’s the same hamstring that he did injure six to 12 months ago so we may need to take the cautious route.”

“I think you need to (be cautious) with someone of Jhye’s calibre, but we’ve got a world-class medical staff here and I’ll trust them to put the work in with Jhye. Hopefully, we’ll get him back on the park as soon as possible.”

It means the Scorchers will be without their strike bowler until their likely finals berth, but they will have the added bonus of Lance Morris joining them for the first time this season after being released from the Test squad today.

Richardson’s latest injury is the latest in a string of setbacks for the 26-year-old, who missed three Marsh Sheffield Shield games earlier this season due to heel bruising.

It’s also the same hamstring that kept him out of Western Australia’s record-breaking Shield title last season. Western Australia teammate Aaron Hardie has joined the Scorchers’ injury list, missing the Thunder game due to a minor quad complaint.
