Devdutt Padikkal won the emerging player of the season award in IPL 2020 after finishing the season as the top run-getter for his side. He scored 473 runs in 15 games including five fifty-plus scores in the season as well. After returning back to India, in an interview with Times Now, Padikkal spoke about his debut IPL season and the future that he sees playing cricket for India.

He also spoke on his association with Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers and what he learned out of them during his stint with RCB. In another disappointing season for RCB, Devdutt Padikkal was their big positive. Speaking to Times Now, the left-hander said that playing Test cricket for India is his ultimate goal.

“Test cricket is what defines a cricketer, it’s the ultimate challenge for any cricketer. To be able to play test cricket for India is something I will try to do in the future” said Devdutt Padikkal when asked about his future with the Indian cricket team.

Another of his big takeaways from his debut season was the time he spent with Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. He spoke about learning the traits of dedication and hard work from his captain Kohli.

Virat Kohli is one of the greats of the game and sharing a dressing room with him and learn from him feels good. It’s not just about learning or on field tips from him though, the way he carries himself, the mass appeal he has, the dedication, the way he gives his 100% to anything he does is just incredible and makes it so special. It is something we can all look forward to. Every youngster can learn so much from Virat Kohli.

Devdutt Padikkal also expressed his views on winning the Emerging Player of The Season Award in his very first year in the IPL. In the process, he broke Shreyas Iyer’s record of scoring the most runs in the debut IPL season. Shreyas Iyer scored 439 runs making his debut in 2015.

“It has been a really great season for me and it was something that I had been waiting to achieve for a long time because I had a great domestic season and I knew I was ready for this tournament. To be honest, I was really looking forward to this season and to be able to make an impact instantly is a dream come true” Padikkal concluded saying.
