‘Playing With Freedom, Fearless Cricket’ – Ajinkya Rahane’s Changed Batting Approach Helps Him To Score Big

Ajinkya Rahane, a seasoned Indian batter, has transformed his batting style in recent years. Earlier, he played the role of an anchor, allowing others to build their innings around him. However, over the last two to three years, he has adopted a more aggressive and fearless approach.

His outstanding performance in the previous edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 469 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 164.56, is a testament to this change. His ability to play freely has also benefitted him in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has been a key player for the Chennai Super Kings.

Confidence from Domestic Cricket

Rahane’s new approach has been evident in domestic cricket as well. Leading Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy semifinals, he contributed significantly with 467 runs. Reflecting on his recent performances, Rahane expressed confidence in his batting, stating that his success in domestic tournaments has strengthened his belief in his game.

He emphasized the importance of staying in the moment, following his processes, and enjoying the game without overthinking past performances or future expectations. This mindset, he believes, is crucial for maintaining consistency and delivering impactful performances.

India’s Triumph Over Australia and Future Prospects

Rahane also shared his thoughts on India’s recent Champions Trophy semifinal victory against Australia. He credited the team’s ability to stay focused in the present rather than dwelling on past defeats. Before this win, India had struggled against Australia in ICC tournament knockouts, losing crucial matches such as the 2015 ODI World Cup semifinal and the 2023 World Test Championship final.

However, Rohit Sharma’s squad broke the jinx, securing a four-wicket victory. As Rahane prepares for the upcoming IPL season, he aims to carry forward his confidence and continue playing with the same aggressive intent that has brought him success in domestic and franchise cricket.
