Praise By Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Don’t Add Pressure On Me – Shubman Gill

The talented young batsman from Punjab Shubman Gill is touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. He has earned praise from all quarters for his consistent show with the bat including skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma. However, Shubman Gill admitted that praise from Kohli and Rohit doesn’t put additional pressure on him.

Gill’s stock has only gone higher ever since he made his presence felt in the U-19 World Cup. Since then, he has impressed in the Indian Premier League and has also earned national call-ups. He also made his debut in the ODIs against New Zealand but failed to make an impact.

Compliments from Kohli, Rohit doesn’t add pressure: Shubman Gill

But that hasn’t stopped Shubman Gill earn praise from the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While Rohit termed him as the future of Indian cricket, Kohli said that he wasn’t 10 percent of what Gill is at his age. While compliments pile up pressure on the cricketers but it isn’t the case for the youngster.

“Yes, it always feels good when someone like Rohit Sharma says that. I don’t feel any added pressure because that’s how I am. I don’t feel any pressure when one compliments me or if someone is critical,” he said.

Shubman Gill, who likes to go out in the middle and express himself has found an ally in his captain Virat Kohli. The cricketer from Delhi also wants his players to be their natural selves. Gills feels it is an advantage to have a skipper like Kohli who believes in the same process.

“Yes, it’s definitely an advantage when your captain wants you to go all-in and there is no pressure. You won’t feel that there is one per cent of your game that would be left when you are on the field so it’s always good for the young players when the captain backs you,” he concluded.
