The young batting sensation Prithvi Shaw will miss the upcoming practice games during India A’s tour of New Zealand after sustaining a shoulder injury. It has been a tough year for the 20-year-old, who has been out of the Test side since suffering an injury ahead of the Australia tour in 2018. The selectors included Shaw in India A squad for the one-dayers and the four-day games in New Zealand.
Shaw recently copped up a blow in the shoulder while playing for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka. Scans revealed Prithvi Shaw had a rotator cuff and labrum injury to his left shoulder which immediately ruled him out of the game. And now, he has been out of the New Zealand series as well. Currently, he is undergoing rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah, in a statement, said that Prithvi Shaw will miss the two practice games in New Zealand. However, his participation in the four-day matches and 50-over ties will be decided later.
“Prithvi is currently under rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and has been ruled out of India A’s two upcoming practice games in New Zealand. A call on his participation in the one-day and four-day matches will be taken at a later stage,” BCCI said in a statement.
The India A squad will leave for New Zealand on January 10 for the series that consists of three one-day games and two four-day games. Prithvi Shaw will be keen to bounce back soon and force his way back into the national side. He had a dream start to his Test career and will hope to return to action shortly.
