Young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has been suspended by the BCCI till November 15. This comes as a big shock to the Indian cricket as the youngster has tried to use a substance found in cough syrups.
Prithvi was asked to provide urine samples during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament at Indore. However, the results weren”t successful now as he had ingested a prohibitive substance into his body. The further analysis stated that it contained a chemical called “Terbutaline” which isn”t allowed for consumption.
Prithvi Shaw was charged for breaking the rules of the BCCI Anti-Doping Rules in July and provisionally suspended without being given the punishment. Alongside Prithvi Shaw, two other players Akshay Dullarwar and Divya Gajraj are also suspended.
He will now be unavailable for any forms of selection till November 15, 2019. This would really be a concern as Shaw would be literally out of the side for the home series against the Proteas and Bangladesh.
Shaw – A rare talent
Shaw, who was lauded for his batting skills is currently battling a hip injury sustained after the Indian Premier League. He was also one of the reasons behind Delhi”s IPL success in this edition.
A few days ago, he even gave an interview saying that he isn”t sure if he would be available for the all-format Carribean tour. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at NCA, Bangalore.
He successfully led the team to the title in the 2018 Under-19 tournament. After his spectacular home debut against West Indies, he received his maiden overseas call-up for Australia. But a leg injury made himself unavailable.
Further developments on his suspension are awaited and it will be interesting how he would react for the same.
