Rilee Rossouw smashes fastest century in PSL history

It was another run feast as Multan Sultans chased down mammoth total against Peshawar Zalmi played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Islamabad on 10 March 2023.

Chasing down a massive target of 243 runs to win, Multan Sultans lost 2 early wickets of captain Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood. Rilee Rossouw showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on the Zalmi bowling along with Kieron Pollard. It was a superb hitting display by Rilee Rossouw and Pollard. Pollard looked in great touch hitting 3 successive sixes off Usman Qadir.

Both Multan Sultans batters took the attack to lackluster Zalmi bowling. Rossouw completed his fifty off just 17 balls keeping the momentum going. Pollard reached half-century off 22 deliveries to showcase his hitting abilities. Wahab Riaz got the breakthrough dismissing Pollard with a short ball caught by Omarzai at deep square leg. Pollard and Rossouw added 99 runs for the 3rd wicket.

The dangerous Tim David fell cheaply to leave Sultans in trouble. Rossouw took the charge putting the Zalmi bowlers under immense pressure hitting fours and sixes at regular intervals. It was a sensational piece of batting by Rossouw to complete the fastest century in PSL history off 41 deliveries.

Rossouw continued to dominate the Zalmi bowling and looked to take Sultans home. Cadmore sensational catch at the boundary ended Rossouw’s innings for a superb 121 off 51 deliveries with 12 fours and 8 sixes with a strike rate of 237.25. Shah and Rossouw added 58 runs for the 5th wicket.

Anwar Ali showed his class by smashing Wahab Riaz for boundaries in the 19th over. Usama Mir also provided hitting touches to make the equation easy. Mir completed the job with a boundary to help Sultans chase down 243 with 5 balls to spare. Multan Sultans became the third team after Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United qualify for the playoff stage. The fight for the fourth spot is between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.

For his match-winning performance, Rilee Rossouw was named the player of the match award.

Peshawar Zalmi also posted a massive total of 242 for 6 in 20 overs. Babar Azam with a high fever and Saim Ayub produced a superb 134 runs-opening partnership. Mohammed Harris’s quickfire cameo along with Cadmore’s brilliance helped Zalmi to post such a massive total.

Rossouw’s form augers well for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023

Rilee Rossouw broke his own record of the fastest century in Pakistan Super League history. He achieved this milestone with 43 balls century against Quetta Gladiators in the 2020 edition. Rossouw registered the third-highest individual score in PSL history.

Delhi Capitals bought Rossouw for Rs 4.60 Crore in IPL auction. His form in this year’s PSL will help him to be confident ahead of IPL 2023.

Rossouw occupies the third spot with the most runs in PSL 2023. He has scored so far 373 runs from 8 matches including 1 century and 2 half-centuries at a strike rate of 176.78.
