R Ashwin Calls For ‘Red Card’ For Gulbadin Naib Accused of ‘Cheating’ In T20 World Cup, Afghan Star Responds

The Afghanistan vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup Super 8 game garnered significant attention as Afghanistan made history by securing their first-ever semi-final spot. They needed a win against Bangladesh to join India from Super 8 Group 1 in the semi-finals.

Three sixes and a four-wicket haul were crucial in securing Afghanistan’s historic win, earning them a place in the T20 World Cup semifinals for the first time.

Led by Rashid Khan, Afghanistan maintained their composure in a low-scoring, rain-affected match to eliminate both Bangladesh and Australia from semi-final contention. The game also featured a controversial incident when Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib allegedly faked an injury after receiving signals from coach Jonathan Trott to slow the game down.

At the time, Afghanistan was ahead on the DLS method due to rain interruptions. Naib’s sudden collapse drew criticism on social media, with some accusing Afghanistan of ‘cheating’.

Commenting on the incident, Indian cricket star R Ashwin wrote on X: “Red card for Gulbadin Naib.” In response, the Afghanistan player replied: “The hamstring comes and goes in times of joy and sorrow.”

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan attempted to downplay the incident

“Well, he had some cramp, I don’t know what happened to him and I don’t know what’s going on in social media but that doesn’t matter – it’s just the end field injury which comes and then we haven’t lost any overs, the rain came and we just went off, it’s not something like brought a massive difference in the game,” Rashid khan.

“We came back on field after five minutes and there was no massive difference. For me, it’s just like a small injury comes in, then you have to take some time.”
