R Ashwin Join The Indian Team In Rajkot Test On Day 4

R Ashwin

Boosting India’s prospects in the Rajkot Test, R Ashwin is set to rejoin the team on Day 4 (February 18). Having achieved the milestone of 500 Test wickets in the first innings of this match, Ashwin temporarily left the squad on Friday (February 16) due to a family emergency.

Uncertainty loomed over India’s ability to field their full XI for the third innings and fourth bowling, but the BCCI has now confirmed Ashwin’s return, crucial for the ongoing Test. A BCCI official release stated, “Both R Ashwin and the team management are pleased to confirm that he will be back in action on Day 4 and will continue to contribute towards the team’s cause in the ongoing Test match.”

In Ashwin’s absence, India showcased resilience, triggering a batting collapse for England on Day 3, as they tumbled from 224/2 to 319 all out. With India establishing control with a substantial lead, Ashwin’s return is eagerly anticipated, bolstering the team’s strength both with the bat and, notably, the ball. This becomes pivotal as England gears up for a fourth-innings chase, an aspect they have excelled at recently.

The match dynamics shifted with India’s impressive performance on Day 3, and Ashwin’s presence on Day 4 is poised to further solidify India’s advantage. As they eye a series lead, India’s prospects are heightened by the return of Ashwin, who has been a pivotal player with his all-round contributions. The stage is set for an intriguing Day 4 as Ashwin rejoins the squad, injecting renewed vigor into India’s pursuit of victory in the Rajkot Test.
