Rachin Ravindra Eagers To Play In Bengaluru

New Zealand’s young cricket sensation, Rachin Ravindra, is all set for the upcoming three-match Test series against India, which starts on October 16, 2024. Having made his Test debut in Kanpur in 2021, Ravindra has quickly risen through the ranks, showcasing his skill during the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he scored 578 runs and finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer.

This series holds special significance for the 24-year-old, as it will be his first time playing a Test match in Bengaluru—a city that holds personal meaning for him, given his family’s deep roots there.

A Special Moment in Bengaluru

Ravindra’s connection to Bengaluru runs deep. His father was born in the city before the family relocated to Wellington, New Zealand, where Rachin was born and raised. Ahead of the series, Rachin shared his excitement about playing in a place so closely tied to his family.

Speaking about the opportunity, he expressed pride in his Indian heritage, noting how significant it is for him to play in a city where much of his family is based. “To be able to play where a lot of my family is based is something special. Test cricket is the pinnacle, and it makes it extra significant because of the family connection to play in Bengaluru,” said Rachin. He also mentioned how special it would be for his father to watch him play live, calling it a “pinch yourself” moment in his cricketing journey.

New Zealand’s Recent Struggles

As Ravindra prepares for this momentous Test series, the New Zealand team faces tough challenges. They recently suffered a 2-0 defeat in a Test series against Sri Lanka, which led to Tim Southee stepping down as captain. Tom Latham has since taken over the captaincy, but the team is currently in a difficult phase.

Star batter Kane Williamson’s absence in the opening Test due to injury is another blow to the side, especially as the Black Caps’ batting lineup has struggled in recent matches.

Overcoming Challenges Against India

Despite the team’s recent setbacks, Ravindra’s enthusiasm and personal motivation for this series could provide a much-needed boost. New Zealand will need to improve their performance if they are to stand a chance against a strong Indian side. Ravindra’s ability to perform on such a significant stage, combined with the emotional significance of playing in Bengaluru, will be closely watched as the Test series unfolds.
