Rahul Chahar Blind-Ranks IPL Captains Ahead Of 2026 Season, Dhoni Tops The List

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar took part in a blind-ranking challenge where he was asked to rank some of the most accomplished captains in the league’s history. The list included MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Pat Cummins, and Shreyas Iyer. Without knowing which name would appear next, the 26-year-old spinner confidently placed MS Dhoni at the top of his rankings. His choices sparked discussion, especially as Virat Kohli did not feature in the top two spots.

Dhoni And Rohit Lead Chahar’s Captaincy Rankings

MS Dhoni securing the top position came as no surprise, given his unmatched record as an IPL captain. Dhoni remains the only skipper in the tournament’s history to register more than 100 wins, with an impressive tally of 136 victories. Under his leadership, Chennai Super Kings have lifted the IPL trophy five times, making him one of the most successful leaders the league has ever seen. Rahul Chahar’s ranking reflected Dhoni’s calm approach, tactical awareness, and consistency over the years.

Rohit Sharma was placed second on Chahar’s list. The Mumbai Indians captain has also led his franchise to five IPL titles, establishing himself as one of the finest leaders in the competition. Chahar shared a strong professional connection with Rohit, having played for Mumbai Indians between 2019 and 2021. During this period, MI won consecutive titles in 2019 and 2020, with Chahar being part of those successful campaigns.

Kohli, Iyer, And Cummins Follow In Order

Virat Kohli was ranked third by Rahul Chahar. Despite not winning an IPL title as captain, Kohli is still among the most successful leaders in terms of wins. He stands fourth on the all-time list of IPL captains, behind Dhoni, Rohit, and Gautam Gambhir, with 66 victories in 143 matches. Shreyas Iyer was placed fourth, followed by Shikhar Dhawan and Pat Cummins in fifth and sixth positions respectively.

Iyer has enjoyed notable success in recent years and led Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title in 2024. Cummins, meanwhile, impressed in his first season as an IPL captain by guiding SunRisers Hyderabad to a runners-up finish in 2024, highlighting his leadership potential despite limited experience.

Rahul Chahar’s Move To Csk For Ipl 2026

Rahul Chahar is set to play alongside MS Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 after being bought for ₹5.2 crore at the auction. Although Dhoni handed over captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2024 season, the veteran will continue to feature as a player in 2026. Chahar’s recent IPL journey has been challenging, with limited opportunities and a dip in form.

He featured in just one match for SunRisers Hyderabad last season and went wicketless. After going unsold initially in the 2026 auction, CSK picked him up in the accelerated round. Chahar has represented India in seven white-ball matches between 2019 and 2021 and will be aiming for a fresh start with the Chennai franchise.
