“Rahul Dravid A Stalwart Of Indian Cricket, Will Be Nice Working With Him In Future” – Rohit Sharma

Indian limited-overs Vice-captain, Rohit Sharma has congratulated former India cricketer Rahul Dravid, on the latter’s appointment as the Head Coach of the Indian senior men’s team.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India released a statement confirming Rahul Dravid’s appointment. The former cricketer’s first assignment will be India’s home series against New Zealand, this month.

“The Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik and Mr RP Singh on Wednesday unanimously appointed Mr Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of Team India (Senior Men). The former India captain will take charge from the upcoming home series against New Zealand,” BCCI said in the statement.

Reacting to Rahul Dravid’s appointment, Rohit Sharma said as quoted by India Today, “Is it official? We were playing the game, I had no idea.” 

“Congratulations to him for coming back but in a different capacity to the Indian team. We look forward to working with him. He is a stalwart of Indian cricket. And it will be nice working with him in the future,” Rohit Sharma added.

Rahul Dravid has represented India in 509 International matches, across formats. He has scored 24208 runs, at an average of 45.41, including 21 International centuries. The legendary cricketer, was the Head of the NCA, and has previously worked with India U19 and India A squads. Rahul Dravid was the head coach of India this year, on Sri Lanka tour in Ravi Shashtri’s absence.

Speaking about his appointment as the Head coach, Rahul Dravid said in the statement released by the BCCI,

“It is an absolute honour to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team and I am really looking forward to this role. Under Mr Shastri, the team has done very well, and I hope to work with the team to take this forward.  Having worked closely with most of the boys either at NCA, U19 and India A setup, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day. There are some marquee multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential.”
