Rahul Dravid Appointed India’s Head Coach, Paras Mhambrey Bowling Coach

Rahul Dravid

Former India captain and stalwart Rahul Dravid is all set to take over the role of the head coach of the Indian senior men’s team. He will replace Ravi Shastri in the position, as Shastri’s tenure ends after the ICC T20 World Cup in UAE.

In a report published by the Times of India, a BCCI official confirmed the news of Rahul Dravid’s agreement to take up the role. Dravid heads the National Cricket Academy and will soon offer his resignation. The BCCI official said as quoted by TOI,

“Dravid has confirmed he will be the next head coach of the Indian team. He will be stepping down as the head of the NCA soon.”

The report states that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah held a meeting with Rahul Dravid and persuaded him to take up India’s head coach role. Dravid was previously in charge of India A and India U19 teams and has been instrumental in creating a formidable bench strength for the country. He was also the Head coach of the Indian team on the tour of Sri Lanka, 2021.

“He (Rahul Dravid) was re-appointed as the NCA head last month. But the BCCI needed a strong candidate to take Indian cricket forward. He has worked so hard to develop the next line of Indian cricketers,” said the BCCI source.

Rahul Dravid has been offered a two-year contract as India’s head coach. The contract will end after the ICC World Cup in 2023, as reported by the TOI. He is likely to get a salary of 10 Crore.

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid’s trusted lieutenant Paras Mhambrey has been appointed as the bowling of the Indian cricket team. There has been no decision on the replacement of the fielding coach, R Sridhar, while Vikram Rathour is likely to be retained as the batting coach.

“Even Mhambrey knows this next lot of players like the back of his hand. So, Ganguly and Shah thought it would be best if they could bring both of them on board. They will assume charge from the New Zealand series after the World Cup,” said the BCCI official.
