The fifth T20I between India and South Africa was abandoned due to heavy rains at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, June 19. The teams shared the five-match T20I series 2-2.

Earlier in the match, Keshav Maharaj walked out to lead the South African team as Temba Bavuma suffered an injury last match. He won the toss and asked India to bat first. As the Indian openers, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad got ready to walk out to bat, rain delayed the start of the play.

However, the game restarted after a few minutes, reducing it to a 19-over affair. South Africa managed to dismiss both the Indian openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan cheaply inside the first four overs. Lungi Ngidi bowled Ishan Kishan for 15 runs, while he dismissed Gaikwad for 10 runs. As Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer began their partnership, rain interrupted play again. However, this time a heavy downpour resulted in the match getting abandoned.

The South African team began the T20I series on a great note, winning the first two matches comfortably. However, the Indian team managed to pull off a comeback. They won the next two matches to equal the scoreline to 2-2. The fifth T20I match was to be the decider between the two teams, however, rain caused the series to end in a draw.

Let’s take a look at how fans reacted to the fifth T20I getting abandoned:
