Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals took a subtle dig at newly-added IPL team Lucknow after they unveil their name on January 24 (Monday). Incidentally, the newly added Lucknow franchise will be called the Lucknow Super Giants. Super Giants was the name given to the Sanjiv Goenka-owned Pune franchise too when they made a brief appearance for a couple of years.

Soon after the name was unveiled, Rajasthan Royals, who are known to have the best social media handles, indulged in banter as Lucknow and Pune have similar names.

Lucknow came back with a super reply, indicating that Rajasthan Royals were banned from the IPL for 2 years as they were caught in the spot-fixing scandal that rocked the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“With all due respect, we missed you those 2 years,” Lucknow replied.

KL Rahul reveals why Lucknow signed Marcus Stoinis, Ravi Bishnoi

Lucknow captain KL Rahul recently opened up on the logic behind the franchise’ decision to sign Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and uncapped Indian young spinner Ravi Bishnoi.

“The idea behind (picking) Stoinis and Bishnoi is very simple. When you are trying to get three retentions, you want to get three pillars sorted. You have an opening batter in me, you have an all-rounder in Stoinis, who can bat No. 5-6. We’ve seen that in Big Bash, he has opened as well. He’s a very flexible player. He gives you a sixth bowling option as well,” Rahul said on Backstage with Boria.

Incidentally, Lucknow Super Giants roped in KL Rahul for a record INR 17 crore, while they also landed Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi for INR 9.2 crore, and INR 4 crore, respectively.
