Ranji Trophy 2018/19 Day 1, Round 1: Milind Kumar 202* helps Sikkim rescue from trouble

The first day of 2018/19 Ranji Trophy began today with matches taken place in Elite Group A, Elite Group B, Elite Group C and Plate Group.

In Plate Group new teams including Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Bihar. In the Plate Group, Bihar was bowled out for 60 in the first innings. Milind Kumar scored a brilliant 202 not out to help Sikkim rescue from a hopeless situation.

Elite Group A

Baroda vs. Gujarat ( Moti Bagh Stadium, Vadodara)

Baroda was bowled out for 290 runs on the first day against Gujarat at Moti Bagh Stadium, Vadodara. Yusuf Pathan scored 69, Deepak Hooda 63. For Gujarat, Siddarth Desai took 5/109, Piyush Chawla 3 for 58. In reply, Gujarat ended the first day on 15 for 0.

Baroda 290 in 81.2 overs ( Yusuf Pathan 69, Deepak Hooda 63, Siddarth Desai 5/107, Piyush Chawla 3/58) by 275 runs.

Vidarbha vs. Maharashtra ( MCA Stadium, Pune)

Defending Champions Vidarbha took on Maharashtra in their opening match at MCA Stadium, Pune. Vidarbha captain Faiz Faizal won the toss and decided to field first. Maharashtra openers Gugagle and Chirag Khurana got the team off to a good start. Khurana reached his half-century off 59 balls. Both Maharashtra openers went into lunch at 116 for 0.

After the lunch break, Wakhare dismissed Gugagle to end a strong 120 runs stand for the first wicket. Vidarbha made a strong comeback, picking 6 wickets with the score at 284. Rahul Tripathi remained not out on 36.

Railways vs. Mumbai ( Karnail Singh Stadium, Delhi)

Mumbai captain Dhawal Kulkarni won the toss and decided to bat first. A brilliant 83 by Surya Kumar Yadav, Siddesh Lad 80 not out, Jay Gokul Bista 47 helped them to post 278 for 5.

Saurashtra vs. Chhattisgarh (SCA Stadium, Rajkot)

Saurashtra ended the first day in a strong position with the score at 282 for 3. Harvik Desai made 78, Snell Patel 91, Pujara retired hurt on 30, Sheldon Jackson not out on 49.

Elite Group B

Andhra vs. Punjab ( ACA- VDCA Stadium, Vizag)

Andhra Pradesh captain Hanuma Vihari won the toss and decided to field. Ayyappa got the team off to a flying start picking 2 early wickets. Youngster Shubman Gill and captain Mandeep Singh steadied the innings with a 92 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. Gill scored 56, Mann and captain Mandeep Singh added 64 runs for a 4th wicket. Punjab captain Mandeep Singh made 68.

Punjab ended the first day on 261 for 6 with Sanvir Singh batting on 63.

Himachal Pradesh vs. Bengal ( Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, Nadun)

Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary won the toss and decided to bat first. Captain Manoj Tiwary was the top score for Bengal with 55, Majmudar 52, A Raman 48 helped Bengal to end day 1 on 266 for 6.

Kerala vs. Hyderabad ( ST Xavier College Ground, Thiruvananthapuram)

Hyderabad captain PA Reddy won the toss and decided to field first. Jalaj Saxena was the top scorer for Kerala with 57, Sanju Samson scored 53, captain Sachin Baby not out on 57.

Tamil Nadu vs. Madhya Pradesh ( NPR College Ground, Dindgul)

Madhya Pradesh captain Naman Ojha won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a great batting performance by MP batsmen to end the first day on 214 for 3. RM Patidar remained not out on 110, AV Birla scored 51. For Tamil Nadu, R Ashwin took 1 wicket.

Jharkhand vs. Assam (JSCA Stadium, Ranchi)

Assam captain AS Sinha won the toss and decided to field first. A brilliant 108 runs stand between Deborat and Nazim Siddiqui gave Jharkhand a solid foundation to build huge total. Utarkash Singh is still not out on 63 and Jharkhand ended day 1 on 266 for 6.

Odisha vs. Haryana (KIIT Stadium, Bhuvneshwar)

Odisha captain Bipal Samantray won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a mixed day for both teams as Haryana ended the first day on 230 for 6. AA Sarangi was the top scorer for Odisha with 114 while Shantanu Mishra remained not out on 30.

Tripura vs. Services (Maharaja Bir Bikram College Ground, Agartala)

Tripura have ended the first day on 268 for 7. Bishal Ghosh remained not out on brilliant 151 while SK Patel scored 38, Harmeet Singh made 37. For Services, S Pandey took 3 for 77 while DG Pathania and VU Yadav took 2 wickets each.

Uttar Pradesh vs. Goa ( Green Park, Kanpur)

Uttar Pradesh captain AD Nath won the toss and decided to field first. Making his debut for Uttar Pradesh, young Shivam Mavi bowled an exceptional spell taking 4 for 25 in 10 overs to bowl out Goa for just 152 runs.  Ankit Rajpoot, Yash Dayal and Saurabh Kumar took 2 wickets each. For Goa, DW Misal was the top scorer with 43.

In reply, Uttar Pradesh has ended the first day in a strong position with 153 for 1. Kaushik and Mohammad Saif remained not out.

Manipur vs. Sikkim ( Jadavpur University Campus 2nd Ground, Kolkata)

Manipur captain Yashpal Singh won the toss and decided to field first. Sikkim were reduced to 15 for 5 but 107 runs stand between Milind Kumar and Bipul Sharma rescued the innings. Milind Kumar still not out on a brilliant 202, helping Sikkim day 1 on a remarkable 299 for 9.

Meghalaya vs. Arunachal Pradesh (Meghalaya Cricket Association Cricket Ground, Shillong)

Meghalaya captain Lamare won the toss and decided to field first. Arunachal Pradesh opener Samarth Seth was top scorer with 50 runs. Meghalaya bowled out Arunachal Pradesh for 166 at tea. For Meghalaya, Gurinder Singh took 5 for 50.

In reply, Meghalaya ended the first day at 87 for 6. Jason Lamare is still not out on 42. For Arunachal Pradesh, Licha Tei took 3 wickets while Subash Sharma took 2 wickets.

Mizoram captain Lalremkima won the toss and decided to bat first. T Kohli was the top scorer with 49 while AL Rajput made 28 runs. Nagaland bowled out Mizoram for 106. For Nagaland, Kazi took 4 for 16 while P Suyal, Lemtur took 2 wickets each.

In reply, Nagaland ended the first day on 189 for 4 with Jonathan not out on 70. For Mizoram, AL Rajput and Moia took 2 wickets each

Uttarakhand captain Rajat Bhatia won the toss and decided to field. Their bowlers did a brilliant job to bowl out Bihar for a paltry total of 60 runs. Deepak Dhopola took 6 for 13 in 8.1 overs for Uttarakhand.

In reply, Uttarakhand ended the first day on 201 for 7 with a lead of 141 runs. SA Rawat scored 64 runs, KV Kaushal was top scorer with 91 runs.
