Hyderabad showed their domination as they piled on the misery against Arunachal Pradesh on the 1st day of the fourth round match that took place at Nex Generation Ground, Hyderabad on 26th January 2024.

Hyderabad captain Rahul Singh won the toss and decided to field first. It was a sensational bowling effort as they took wickets in a heap to bowl out Arunachal Pradesh for 172. Chama Milind and Karthik Tyagi grabbed 3 wickets each while Elligaram Sanketh and Sairam took 1 wicket each, and Thyagarajan took 2 wickets.

In reply, Tanmay Agarwal showed no mercy on the Arunachal Pradesh bowlers smashing them to all parts of the ground. Agarwal and captain Rahul Singh added 449 runs for the opening wicket. Tanmay Agarwal broke many records during this marvellous knock against Arunachal Pradesh.

Hyderabad was relegated to the Plate Group after disappointing performances in the Ranji Trophy last year. They are making use of it and will be certain to qualify for the quarterfinals of this prestigious tournament.

Here we look at the records broken by Tanmay Agarwal in the Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh. 

  1. Tanmay Agarwal broke the record of Virender Sehwag for most runs in a single day. Agarwal is currently on 323. Sehwag scored 284 runs against Sri Lanka at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in a 2009 Test match.
  2. He achieved the fastest triple century which was previously held by Marco Marais in 2017.
  3. His knock comprised 21 sixes and 33 fours. He surpassed Ishan Kishan in most sixes in an innings.
  4. He becomes the first player to score 300 plus runs in a single day in Ranji Trophy history.
  5. Tanmay Agarwal scored the fastest-ever triple century in the first class of 147 balls. It was a superb batting performance as Hyderabad ended the first day in a commanding position at 529 for 1.
  6. He also achieved the fastest double centurion by an Indian. Tanmay smashed 200 off 119 balls. His knock surpassed Ravi Shastri who smashed 200 off 123 balls against Baroda in 1985.
  7. It was the second fastest double century in the history of first-class cricket. Tanmay Agarwal would be looking to continue their dominating performance on the 2nd day and hope to provide Hyderabad with another big win.
