Ravi Shastri Opens Up On Suryakumar Yadav’s Exclusion From Australia Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced three squads for the upcoming tour of Australia. Among all the squads, one surprise omission was Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav. The surprise exclusion has grabbed a lot of eyeballs from all quarters.

Suryakumar has been one of the most consistent performers in domestic cricket and IPL. His ability to bat anywhere in the order makes him a special talent. The Mumbai batsman has been scoring heavily in Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy on a consistent basis since last three years now.

Suryakumar Yadav needs to be patient – Ravi Shastri

This edition of IPL also has been no different for Suryakumar Yadav, who has done his job silently. So far, the right-handed batsman has amassed 374 runs from 13 matches at an average of 41.55 with a strike-rate of over 150 including three fifties.

As a result, his exclusion has grabbed the headlines. Recently India head coach Ravi Shastri has opened up on the same and stated that with the talent the current team possess, there is no room for Suryakumar Yadav to make the cut. The former India all-rounder also gave examples from his playing days to back his comments.

“That’s why we say to these youngsters – be patient. Like Suryakumar there are 3-4 other players on the fringe but when you have a team that is packed with talent and experience it becomes very difficult to get in,” Ravi Shastri told Times Now in an exclusive interview.

“I remember period in my career when 1-6 in the Indian batting line-up everyone was certain of their places and it was difficult for anyone to penetrate that middle-order and yet you had some people who were scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket and knocking at the door,” Ravi Shastri added.

With the Australia tour past now, Suryakumar Yadav will be devoted to giving his best as Mumbai Indians look to defend their trophy. So far, they are the only side to book a playoff berth.
