Sunil Gavaskar was in the middle of a huge controversy earlier in the IPL season after passing sexist remarks on Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma. “Sirf Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki hai unhone”, referring to Kohli-Anushka’s viral video of playing cricket in their Mumbai residence during the lockdown period.

His comments were first misunderstood and then blown out of proportion, as the former Indian skipper became a national villain overnight. He received staunch criticism from Virat Kohli fans all over the world. Several cricket experts also found his comments disrespectful towards Anushka. The latest to join this bandwagon is the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri.

Ravi Shastri Reacts to Sunil Gavaskar’s comments on Anushka Sharma

In an exclusive interaction with Times Now, Ravi Shastri put forward his opinion on the overall matter, which became a huge news sensation overnight.

“If Anushka Sharma felt it, she is entitled to say. Whether the comment made by Sunil Gavaskar is agreeable or not, I would not have down that route myself” said Ravi Shastri to the news channel.

Anushka Sharma also wrote an explanation to Sunil Gavaskar keeping her point of view on the entire matter and asking him why did she drag her name into the matter.

“That Mr Gavaskar, your comment is distasteful is a fact but I would for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her for her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don’t you should have equal amount of respect for me and use?” said Anushka.

“It’s 2020 and thing still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements? Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in the gentleman’s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this,” Anushka concluded.

After the allegations stamped on him by Anushka Sharma, Sunil Gavaskar clarified his statements and said the exact meaning of the words he spoke during commentary.

Meanwhile, RCB has lost three back to back games in the ongoing IPL season after getting to 14 points. Their latest defeat came against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday in a fairly one-sided contest. Virat Kohli has crossed the 400-run mark in this season so far. After 13 innings, Kohli has 431 runs at 47.88 with three half-centuries under his belt.
