Former cricketer Ravi Shastri feels Team India should stick with Ishan Kishan in the 2023 Asia Cup ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He also expressed that the left-hander should open the innings. The Asia Cup is all set to kick off on August 30 before the ODI World Cup which takes place in October-November.

Ishan Kishan has done a fine job for Team India in KL Rahul’s absence. He has scored 425 runs in six innings, including three fifties and a double century while opening the batting in ODIs.Former India head coach Ravi Shastri feels Ishan Kishan should continue batting at the top of the order. He suggested that Shubman Gill should instead play in the middle order, with Rohit Sharma as the opener and Virat Kohli at No.3.

Speaking on Star Sports, Ravi Shastri shared his thoughts on Ishan Kishan’s batting position. He said,

“At the top of the order, nowhere else. And the others have to be flexible. Between Rohit, Virat, and Shubhman Gill, that can be 2, 3, 4. If you have persisted with Ishan Kishan for the last six to eight months, and he’s going to keep wickets, he comes in, in any case. Ishan Kishan has been keeping for the last 15 months. Why go somewhere else?”

People don’t give Shikhar Dhawan the credit he deserves: Ravi Shastri

Former cricketer Ravi Shastri further spoke about Shikhar Dhawan’s exclusion from Team India’s plans in ODIs. He expressed that the veteran batter doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He also added that if Shikhar Dhawan wasn’t ruled out of the 2019 World Cup due to a finger injury, things could have been different for Team India. The Men in Blue lost to New Zealand in the semi-final of the tournament.

“I keep saying that people don’t give the credit that Shikhar Dhawan deserves. You mention the World Cup in 2019 where we lost that semifinal, when we had a brilliant World Cup, he was the missing man there. You know, that made such a big difference – a left-hander at the top of the order, as opposed to three right-handers with the ball swinging away, which allowed teams to get a grip of where to bowl and bowl consistently,” said Ravi Shastri.
