The reason behind the banter should be credited to the fan who shared a box of balls which had Mankad written on each of the six balls. Ashwin was also on his toe when it came to responding to the meme shared by the Rajasthan team. He dealt with the meme quite maturely and won the online battle with his witty reply and took the opportunity to wish the Royals a Happy New Year.

In IPL 2019, an infamous incident took place between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals when Ravichandran Ashwin mankand out Rajasthan Royals wicket keeper batsman Jos Buttler.
