In the 2025 IPL season, Ravichandran Ashwin featured in just nine out of 14 matches for the Chennai Super Kings—a departure from his prior consistency in playing full seasons.
This unusual reduction in game time left him perplexed about his position in the squad. Seeking clarity, Ashwin turned to the team management to understand whether he would be retained or released ahead of the next season.
How Rajasthan Royals Handled Communication, Compared to CSK
To illustrate the gap in communication, Ashwin reflected on his time with the Rajasthan Royals. He recounted how, after his first season with RR, the franchise’s CEO sent a clear performance review along with a renewal decision, following what he described as a “1+1+1” contract pattern.
He emphasized that, in his experience, it’s the franchise’s responsibility to inform players of their contract status and whether they’ll be retained—something CSK had not done in his case.
Expressing Frustration and a Desire for Peace
Caught amid swirling trade rumors—most notably involving Sanju Samson—Ashwin broke his silence via his YouTube channel. He clarified that none of these speculations originated from him or his camp.
Rather, he asserted that players have a right to request clarity from their franchise, but the ensuing rumors are not driven by any desire on his part. With a tinge of frustration, he delivered a heartfelt plea in Hindi: “Mujhe chor do yaar … mujhe khushi se rehne do yaar,” which translates to “Please leave me alone… let me live happily” —revealing how much he yearns for closure, peace of mind, and direction in uncertain times.
