India’s finger spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a rare feat after dismissing Josh Hazlewood in the second test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as he surpassed Muttiah Muralitharan for most left-handed dismissals in test cricket. In the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, Ashwin has been magnificent with the ball taking 11 wickets so far with the dismissal of David Warner on Day 3. He accounted for Warner’s wicket for the 10th time in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, dismissing Warner, Ravichandran Ashwin has topped an elite list of bowlers with names like Muttiah Muralitharan, Glen McGrath James Anderson and Shane Warne. Ashwin overtook Muralitharan’s 191 dismissals of left-handers in the Melbourne Test, he took his tally to 193 with the wicket of Warner in SCG.

England’s James Anderson who is the highest wicket-taking pace bowler in the test format lies 3rd in the list with 186 dismissals followed by two Aussies Glenn Mcgrath and Shane Warne with 172 dismissals each.

Ravichandran Ashwin is also among India’s top-five wicket-takers in Test cricket. The tally is led by Anil Kumble with 619 wickets. Kapil Dev (431) and Harbhajan Singh (417) is second and third on the list. With 376 wickets and counting, Ashwin looks set to go past Harbhajan and Kapil.

Meanwhile, it was an entertaining day’s cricket on the third day at the SCG. Day 3 of the third Test between India and Australia went on two very different planes for the two teams in Sydney. While Australia with a lead of 197 runs have strengthened their position in the match, India are grappling with injuries with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja sent for scans after coping up with injuries.

Keeping his good form on Pat Cummins took four wickets with the ball in the first innings. Mitchell Starc took a wicket and Josh Hazlewood took two. The Indian inning also saw as many as three run-outs which was another highlight of their batting innings.

Meanwhile, after the day’s play Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were at the receiving end of racial abuse from Australian fans against which the BCCI has lodged a formal complaint.
