Jasprit Bumrah’s update on his fitness is imminent and has received updates. The pace star underwent scans and a fitness assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru a couple of days back. As soon as cricket fans around the world await the announcement, key Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has shed some light on Bumrah’s fitness.
Jadeja has been exceptional in this ongoing ODI series, picking six wickets with an average of 10.17, and he disclosed that the call on Bumrah availability lies with the medical department.
The BCCI is open to making an overseas appointment later if it means waiting for Bumrah’s complete rehabilitation, as the final stages of injury management are in progress. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner, and it will be the fitness status of Jasprit Bumrah that is the deciding factor in India’s campaign.
“It’s not my department”—Ravinda Jadeja on Jasprit Bumrah
The post-match news conference after India’s series-ending ODI victory against England in Cuttack was attended by Ravindra Jadeja. Although Jadeja worked his magic with the ball, Rohit Sharma’s valiant century served as the foundation.
In response to a question regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the ICC Champions Trophy after the game, Jadeja said, “It’s not my department. It’s the job of the medical department; they’re following up. Hopefully, he gets fit. It will be a huge boost for us. It is good for the whole country as well, not only for our team.”
The sole heroics of the bowler in the Border Gavaskar Trophy proved to be too much on his fitness, considering the ICC Champions Trophy just around the corner. The countdown is on for Jasprit Bumrah to recover with less than two days left for the BCCI to decide between keeping him or looking for a replacement.
It would be quite important that Bumrah is not hurried back to action if he is not fully fit. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy are ready to take the stage if required. BCCI should consider Bumrah’s long-term fitness and make a decision that suits both the player and the team.
