All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to retire from Test cricket to prolong his white-ball career going forward. With two ICC limited-overs tournaments lined up in the next two years, Jadeja is keen to keep himself fit as the Men in Blues set their firmly on the prestigious trophy.
Jadeja, who missed the second Test against New Zealand in Mumbai, is not part of the squad for the South Africa series also. He had suffered a forearm injury during the first Test against the Kiwis in Kanpur and had to sit out of the final encounter.
As the list of injured players continues to grow, one of the teammates of Ravindra Jadeja has told while speaking to Dainik Jagran that the ace all-rounder might retire from the longest format of the game to prolong his white-ball career for India.
If the Saurashtra cricketer decides to step aside from red-ball cricket, it will be a huge loss for India. Jadeja has scored important runs for the team down the order along with his crucial left-arm spin. Besides, he is also a gun fielder and played a pivotal role in taking India to the finals of the first edition of the ICC World Test Championship.
Overall, Ravindra Jadeja has played 57 Test matches, scoring 2195 runs with the highest score of 100 not out at an average of 33.76. He has taken 232 wickets at an average of just under 25 and an economy of 2.41. Currently, Jadeja is Number 4 in ICC Test Rankings for all-rounders.
Team India will start the three-match Test series against South Africa with the Boxing Day Test on 26 December in Centurion followed by games of Johannesburg and Cape Town. The Test series will be followed by a three-match ODI series.
