RCB Make History: First Team To Hit 150 Sixes In A T20 Tournament

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made history on May 18 by becoming the first team to hit 150 sixes in a single T20 tournament, including the Indian Premier League (IPL). This milestone was achieved during their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Previously, the record for the most sixes in an IPL season was held by CSK, who hit 145 sixes in 2018. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) broke this record earlier in the current season by hitting 146 sixes. RCB surpassed SRH on Saturday, becoming the first team to reach 150 sixes in a season.

RCB’s journey to this record began in their first match of the season against CSK, where they hit 6 sixes. They followed this with 6 sixes against Punjab Kings in their next game. In the third and fourth games, RCB hit 11 and 8 sixes respectively. Against Rajasthan Royals in their fifth game, they hit another 6 sixes. RCB then hit 11 sixes against Mumbai Indians, and an impressive 16 sixes against SRH, even though they lost that match.

In their next game, RCB hit a season-high 17 sixes against Kolkata Knight Riders. This was followed by 8 sixes against SRH. They then hit 16 and 8 sixes in consecutive games against Gujarat Titans. RCB hit another 16 sixes against Punjab Kings before hitting 11 sixes against Delhi Capitals. In their final league game, RCB smashed 16 sixes against CSK, bringing their total to 157 sixes.

Here are the most sixes in a T20 tournament:

– 157 sixes by RCB in IPL 2024
– 146 sixes by SRH in IPL 2024
– 145 sixes by CSK in IPL 2018
– 144 sixes by Surrey in T20 Blast 2023
– 143 sixes by KKR in IPL 2019

Regarding the match against CSK, RCB posted a formidable total of 218 for 5 in 20 overs after being asked to bat. Faf du Plessis led the team with a score of 54, supported by crucial contributions from Virat Kohli (47), Rajat Patidar (41), and Cameron Green (39).

At the time of this report, CSK were 64 for 2 after 7 overs. CSK needed to score at least 201 runs to qualify for the playoffs. RCB, on the other hand, had a chance to secure a playoff spot if they restricted CSK to fewer than 201 runs.
