RCB Stampede Incident: KSCA Officials Resign Amid Backlash

A stampede occurred during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 4. According to News18, the latest update reveals that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary and Treasurer have stepped down from their posts.

RCB had clinched their first-ever IPL title after defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final on Tuesday, June 3. Celebrations followed the next day, but tragedy struck when a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in 11 deaths and several injuries.

In response to the incident, KSCA Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer E Jairam submitted their resignations on Friday, June 6, with immediate effect.

“This is to inform that due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, by way of a letter dated 06.06.2025 to the President of Karnataka State Cricket Association,” the Secretary and Treasurer issued a press release.

RCB Clinch IPL Title After 18 Years

Although the celebrations were marred by tragedy, RCB successfully ended their 18-year wait to claim an IPL title. They delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Consistently strong in the league stage, they finished second with nine wins and 19 points from 14 matches.

Securing a top-two spot, they faced PBKS in the first qualifier and won convincingly by eight wickets to reach the final. In the championship match, Bengaluru set a challenging target by scoring 190/9 in their 20 overs. Their bowlers then combined efforts to restrict PBKS to 184/7, winning the match by six runs.

This victory marked RCB’s first-ever IPL trophy. The team had previously reached the finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016 but had fallen short each time.
