The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 marked a significant milestone for women’s cricket, with the tournament witnessing a record-breaking turnout of 91,030 fans, a 30% rise from the previous edition. The grand final between New Zealand and South Africa at the Dubai International Stadium saw 21,457 spectators, a staggering 68% increase from the last final held in South Africa.

The group stages and semi-finals also drew large crowds, with 69,573 fans in total, showcasing the growing global appeal of women’s cricket. This surge in support emphasizes the sport’s increasing popularity across diverse audiences, particularly in the UAE.

India-Pakistan Clash Sets New Record

A standout moment of the tournament occurred during the group stages, where the highly anticipated India versus Pakistan match set a new record for the highest attendance at a Women’s T20 World Cup group stage game.

Held at the Dubai International Stadium on October 6, the match attracted 15,935 fans, highlighting the fierce rivalry between the two neighboring countries and the heightened interest in women’s cricket. This record-breaking crowd not only demonstrated the passion of cricket fans but also underscored the UAE’s role as a prime destination for major sporting events.

New Zealand Clinches Historic Victory

In a thrilling conclusion to the tournament, New Zealand claimed their first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa in the final by 32 runs. Amelia Kerr was the star of the match, earning both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament honors. She delivered a standout performance with 43 runs and three wickets, leading her team to victory.

Geoff Allardice, ICC Chief Executive, praised the event, stating that the success of the tournament reflects the growing stature of women’s cricket and its potential to continue thriving on a global stage.
