Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar seems to be extremely dissatisfied with his non-selection. Reports suggest that he engaged in a verbal rift with the selectors right after the interview.
An unknown source told the Times of India that, “(When the selection committee was conducting interviews) … He went and knocked on Devang’s door late in the evening and gave him and the selection committee an earful. He warned the selectors that the team would rally around him and the decision (to replace him) would fall flat. This wasn’t required. It wasn’t the team’s job to decide on support staff. It was the selectors’ call.”
Earlier it was reported that several questions were posed to Bangar during his interview. Most of them were connected to his failure in finding a suitable middle-order combination for the limited-overs. Additionally, the panel also asked him the reason behind Dhoni”s unusual batting position in the semifinals of world cup 2019.
There is currently a buzz that this isn”t the first time Bangar has reacted differently. There were several claims of his indiscipline over the last five years of his tenure.
“Right now, the board is clearly not happy with his behavior. Too many instances have been brought to the notice of COA chief Vinod Rai. The fact is that trust became an issue within the team when it came to dealing with Sanjay,” the sources said.
Sanjay Bangar for RCB?
Sanjay Bangar was actually on a 45-day extension to the Carribean tour. The management has now chosen to retain other members of the coaching department sans Bangar.
Vikram Rathour will replace Bangar as the batting coach starting from the home assignment against the Proteas.
On the other hand, there are several reports suggesting that Bangar would be roped in as the batting coach of Kohli-led RCB. However, there hasn”t been any official confirmation on the same.
