Report: Shikhar Dhawan Is Set To Make A Stunning Comeback As Captain For India In 2023

Shikhar Dhawan is likely to come back to Team India as captain for a big event in September-October this year, as the BCCI prepares to announce the ‘B’ team.

The Indian cricket team has an action-packed schedule for the year, encompassing various high-profile tournaments.

While the first half of the calendar was highlighted by the World Test Championship final, where India unfortunately suffered a defeat against Australia.

The team is now aiming for favorable outcomes in the latter half. It includes the much-anticipated ODI World Cup on home soil and the preceding Asia Cup.

However, in addition to these two major trophies, India is also scheduled to participate in the quadrennial Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China.

Shikhar Dhawan has the potential to make a remarkable comeback to Team India

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), a reliable source has hinted that a senior member of the Indian cricket team could potentially make a comeback for the Asian Games.

The report suggests that Shikhar Dhawan might lead the Indian ‘B’ team during the tournament. While the primary team continues its preparations for the World Cup.

PTI stated on Thursday, “Shikhar Dhawan’s name is being discussed as the captain of the India B team that will participate in the quadrennial extravaganza.”

Since December of the previous year, Dhawan has been absent from the Indian ODI squad due to inconsistent performances in the fifty-over format.

He was subsequently replaced by the young opening batsman Shubman Gill. As of now, Dhawan has not represented India in any format this year.

However, this would not be Dhawan’s first experience leading the Indian team. The left-handed opener previously captained the side in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand.

The men’s competition at the Asian Games will coincide with India’s World Cup preparations. It is expected that a secondary team will be fielded for the continental event.

In contrast, the women’s team, boasting a full-strength lineup and led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will participate as favorites to secure the gold medal.

This team had also competed in the Commonwealth Games the previous year. They finished as runners-up after losing to Australia in the final.

The potential return of Shikhar Dhawan to Team India has generated significant excitement among cricket enthusiasts.

As the Indian cricket calendar unfolds, it is eagerly anticipated how the ‘B’ team, under Dhawan’s captaincy, will fare in the Asian Games.

With a strong women’s team also vying for success in the same event, the forthcoming Asian Games promise to be an exciting and crucial period for Indian cricket.
