Indian batter Rinku Singh has voiced her ambitions to play alongside previous captain Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) should Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) withdraw him before IPL 2025 sales pitch day. The left-handed batsman last played for the Men in Blue during a three-series T20I match against Sri Lanka.
Rinku’s batting was below par but he was able to show his prowess in the ball by bowling an important penultimate over in the third game. Finally, India emerged victorious in a Super Over.
The 26-year-old will next be seen in action in the UP T20 League, which begins on August 25 when he leads the Meerut Mavericks. Just before the tournament while speaking with Sports Tak about Rinku’s future with KKR given the Mega Auction on horizon, this explosive batter spoke:
“Abhi toh kuch pata nhi hai. Abhi kuch bataya nahi ki retention hoga ya auction mai jana hai. Aur Abhi dekhte hai kya hota hai aage.” [Nothing is known as of now. Nothing has been said yet whether there will be retention or whether the auction will go in May. Let’s see what happens next]”
The left-hander was asked which team he would prefer if KKR chose to release him.
“RCB,” he replied.
It is well-known that Rinku has an amiable association with Virat Kohli. Earlier this year, online clips featuring the southpaw requesting a bat from the previous Indian captain had gone viral. He had his most successful season in the 2023 IPL so far with a total of 474 runs scored in 14 innings.
The public focused their attention on Rinku Singh when he hit five successive sixes off Yash Dayal to help KKR win the match which required them to score 28 runs off only five balls left. In IPL history as a whole, he has played 45 matches and tallied 893 runs, including four fifties so far.
“I didn’t perform that well” – Rinku Singh comments on Duleep Trophy snub
The Duleep Trophy will kick off the 2024-25 Indian domestic season on September 5. Nevertheless, none of the teams had a place for Rinku Singh. While addressing the same issue during his interview, he mentioned:
“Nothing…I didn’t perform that well (in the domestic season). And I didn’t play many matches in the Ranji Trophy…I played 2-3 matches. I wasn’t selected because I didn’t play that well. I might get selected for next-round matches.”
The upcoming tournament also features some well-known personalities, including Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj.
