Rishabh Pant has had an underwhelming IPL 2020 season with the bat. Following his ordinary show with the bat, Aakash Chopra has criticised Pant for looking confused and uncertain about his role and game. Pant in IPL this season has scored 285 in 12 matches but it’s his batting strike rate that has been under scrutiny.

Overall Pant has a strike of touching 150 in his IPL career but this season it has only been 109.61. As a result, Delhi Capitals in the second half of the tournament lost a lot of matches as Rishabh Pant has failed to deliver with the bat. Yesterday Pant once failed again in qualifier 1 against MI and only made 3 from 9 balls.

Rishabh Pant Appears Confused About His Own Game- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra who has always been an admirer of Pant’s fearless batting stated that the batsman appears unclear about his roles and responsibilities. The popular commentator added Pant is not backing his natural game and looked shaky throughout the IPL season.

“Going back to Pant – he comes across as someone who is confused about his role and his responsibilities towards his own game. I’m not talking about what the team or the situation demands of him but just his comfort with his own style of play,” Aakash Chopra wrote in a column for ESPNCricinfo.

“His last couple of Test matches and this edition of the IPL have brought that uncertainty to the fore. He is blessed with the ability to hit the ball long and hard, but it seems that he is unsure of the right time to do so”, he added.

Meanwhile, yesterday in the playoffs match Pant was once again was dismissed a left-arm spinner. After looking woefully out of nick he gave his wicket to Krunal Pandya. Chopra thinks that Pant hasn’t been himself this season and allowed spinners to settle down.

He also added that Pant has now entered the second stage of his career where he needs to understand his style of play which will be propitious for him and Indian cricket.

“There have been instances in this IPL where left-arm spinners have come and gone unscathed. The bowlers he wouldn’t allow to settle down in the past have kept him quiet this season because he chose to let the moment pass and wait for a better, more opportune moment,” he continued.

“Pant has entered the second stage of his career. This phase is about understanding and acquiring. The sooner he does that, the better for him and Indian cricket,” Aakash Chopra concluded.

Furthermore, it has been a nightmare few months for Pant who was first criticised for his ordinary fitness and then he couldn’t find a place in India’s white-ball squad for the tour to Australia. Pant will get another chance in the qualifier 2 on Sunday in IPL 2020.
