Rishabh Pant is undoubtedly on the most exciting young player in the world today. The 22-year-old has been unbelievable in Indian Premier League during his career. While playing for the Delhi capitals, he has scored 1736 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of over 160. However, Pant has been unable to replicate his performances in the India colours.
After MS Dhoni’s absence from international cricket, Pant has struggled to cement his place in India’s white-ball squad. The swashbuckling batsman is currently training and practising with Chennai Super Kings veteran Suresh Raina.
Pant is a gun player – Suresh Raina
With IPL around the corner, both Raina and Pant are trying to fine-tune their skills and be ready for the mega event in UAE.
Recently in an interview, Suresh Raina immensely praised Rishabh Pant and categorised him as a gun player. Raina believes that Pant is hitting the ball well and will be successful in the upcoming IPL season. Talking about Pant’s international career, Raina feels that the management and his teammates need to back and look after Pant more as he is a special talent.
“I have been practising with Rishabh Pant. He was hitting the ball very well. Then I had a net with Shami. All bowlers have been coming here and practising. Piyush Chawla also came, he bowled really well.” Said Raina on ‘Star Sports’ chat show ‘Cricket Connected’.
He added, “I think Rishabh Pant has been amazing. He has scored a lot of runs for the country as well as in the IPL and in domestic cricket. Pant has got two Test hundreds. He played really well in T20s as well as ODIs.”
“I think he is a gun player, he has a quality future. He needs to be really looked after by his teammates. And then you will see a lot of great performances coming from him very soon,” said Raina about Rishabh Pant.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has been consistent in Test cricket as he already as hundreds in Australia and England. Nonetheless, due to his poor form in ODIs, he lost his place to KL Rahul, who now plays as a specialist wicketkeeper-batsman in the Indian team. Pant will eager to prove a point in IPL 2020 which is all set to take place in UAE between September 19- November 10.
