Rishabh Pant Set To Stay With Delhi Capitals For IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has put an end to all rumors surrounding Rishabh Pant’s future, confirming that the star wicketkeeper-batter will be retained by the franchise for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Amidst speculations of Pant’s potential move to other teams ahead of the upcoming mega auction, Jindal made it clear that Pant will remain a core part of Delhi’s squad. In a recent interview, Jindal stated, “Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained,” reaffirming the franchise’s commitment to their talismanic leader. Pant, who has been a vital figure for the Capitals, will once again be key as the team strives for their first-ever IPL title.

Delhi Capitals’ Retention Strategy

While confirming Pant’s retention, Jindal also shed light on other players who could potentially stay with the franchise. Promising talents like Abishek Porel, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and senior players such as Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were mentioned as possible contenders.

However, Jindal clarified that no final decisions had been made apart from Pant’s retention. He emphasized that any further decisions would be taken after consulting with the team’s Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly. Jindal stated, “We have some very good players, and after discussions with GMR and our director, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made.”

Retention Rules and Future Plans

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently announced new retention rules for IPL 2025. Each team can retain up to six players, either through direct retention or the Right to Match (RTM) option. Jindal expressed confidence in their retention strategy, but acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming auction.

He said, “We’ll see what happens in the auction, but first, we can retain six players. After discussions, we’ll move forward accordingly.” Delhi Capitals finished sixth in IPL 2024 and are determined to build a strong team for the next season as they continue their quest for a maiden IPL title.
