India’s wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is still refining his skills behind the stumps, with his performance as a keeper not yet considered among the best in the country. However, his batting often offsets the gaps in his wicket-keeping abilities. On Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh, Pant made a significant DRS error, which left fast bowler Mohammed Siraj frustrated.
The incident occurred when Siraj was bowling to Zakir Hasan. The ball hit Hasan’s pads, and Siraj made a strong LBW appeal, but the umpire turned it down. Captain Rohit Sharma discussed taking the review with Pant, but Pant advised against it, suggesting the ball would miss the leg stump. Caught on the stump mic, Pant was heard saying, “Height nahi hain, nikal jayege leg-side” (There’s no height but the ball will go down the leg side).
Rohit decided not to use the DRS, but replays later showed the ball would have hit the leg stump, meaning India missed an opportunity to dismiss Hasan. Realizing the impact of his misjudgment, Pant raised his hand to apologize to Siraj, who was visibly disappointed.

Indian Bowlers Dominate as Bangladesh Struggles to Recover
Meanwhile, Indian bowlers made significant inroads into Bangladesh’s batting lineup, leaving them in trouble at 112 for eight by tea. Jasprit Bumrah led the charge, taking three wickets in his 6.5 overs, while Akash Deep and Bumrah himself picked up two wickets each. Earlier, India posted 376 in their first innings, having resumed at 339 for six overnight.
Bangladesh’s batting approach was lackluster, showing little resilience after India capitalized on a strong recovery from 144 for six. With three wickets falling for just 26 runs before lunch, Bangladesh’s chances dwindled further as they lost another five wickets for just 85 runs in 27 overs during the second session.
